Vice President (Dr. Dong-Churl Suh)

Dr. Dong-Churl Suh

Country: South Korea

Member Association: The Korean Pharmaceutical Association

Dong-Churl Suh, Ph.D., is the Director of the Korean Institute of Pharmaceutical Policy Affairs-Korea Pharmaceutical Association (KPA) and an Adjunct Professor at School of Pharmacy, Rutgers University, USA. He previously served as a Professor and the Dean of the College of Pharmacy at Chung-Ang University, South Korea for 10 years and as a tenured professor at the School of Pharmacy, Rutgers University for 17 years. Dr. Suh has also served in numerous leadership positions for pharmacy related organizations, including KPA. He has actively served for the FAPA Scientific Section as a Chairman and recently organized the Planning Committee for the 2024 FAPA Seoul Congress as a vice president based on his experiences hosting the 2017 FIP meeting in Seoul.

Dr. Suh’s research acumen is derived from comparative research performed in examining the cost-effectiveness of pharmacists’ services, consumers’ willingness to pay for pharmacist services, and impact of pharmaceutical care on patients’ quality of life.

Dr. Suh has received several research and leadership excellence awards including the Ishidate Award from FAPA (2018) and the South Korea President’s Award in recognition of his valuable contributions on enhancing pharmacists’ services (2020).

Based on his wide range of leadership, academic, and professional experiences, he will be able to fulfill the roles and responsibilities of the FAPA bureau and will advance FAPA’s position as a vital organization in Asia’s pharmacy practice network while serving in a FAPA leadership role.

Dr. Suh believes that FAPA with its broad international membership from clinical practice, academia, and government is uniquely positioned to offer leadership in pharmacy practice as part of a multidisciplinary team. I would like to close with an adaptation of my favorite quote that even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree in the FAPA community. Thank you for your time and consideration.

To serve FAPA as a FAPA Burau member, I have experience in organizing several international pharmaceutical activities, such as the 2014 FIP congress, the 2016 FAPA congress, and several international meetings. Moreover, I have worked for the Pharmaceutical Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage for more than 10 years. This makes me myself have a string of connections with every Thai pharmaceutical association in Thailand. As a result, I’d like to leverage these advantages to connect local and regional pharmacy associations, including FAPA.

In addition, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the FAPA activities were reduced. This makes new generations of pharmacists less familiar with important regional professional activities. Therefore, I would like to reencourage international collaboration of the pharmacy profession in every dimension.
